You cannot want more for people than they want for themselves! Did ya'll hear me in the back? You can not want more for people than they want for themselves!
What do I mean by this?
I mean that it's normal for us to want better for ourselves and others, but you can't let that get YOU off YOUR path. If you are helping someone more than you are yourself......no, just reevaluate honey! I am a social worker by background and education, I love helping others reach their goals and their highest potential, their reaction to their growth is so beautiful to witness. However in this amazing journey called life, there are situations and people that you come across where you are helping more than they are willing to help themselves. When you are faced with such situations, it is important to realize what is occurring before you get lost in their damn sauce and begin to hinder your own growth! For example if you are giving someone advice and they are really listening, taking it in, claiming change for themselves, and don't make any change for themselves, then that is on them! Don't allow yourself to get frustrated and feel bad for them, you did your part, you listened gave your two cents and are there for them. Don't get in the boat with them and not continue doing you. ALWAYS DO YOU! I know this is easier said then done, because we love people and want to see them at their best and grow, but not at the expense of you feeling drained and worried about someone else's progress more than your own.
If you are in relationships, friendships, situations, employment, anything where you feel it's a one way street and you are putting more into and getting absolutely nothing out of it but feeling drained and spent, then my friend it is time to add subtract and delete if needed. There doesn't need to be an explanation for it either, remove yourself if necessary and continue on your path, the right people and situations will follow. Please do not hinder your growth for anyone.
Like the talented Amy Winehouse sang, "I can't help you, if you won't help yourself."
As always, work on becoming the best version of yourself, you are your only competition!
